On Jupiter
On Jupiter
Jupiter fifth planet from the Sun the largest in the solar system a planet made entirely of gas. Over 89 million miles from earth with 63 known moons. These are the facts yet they don’t begin to tell the amazing story of Jupiter. 30 years ago we began our exploration of the giant planet. The Voyager space crafts gave us our first close up look of Jupiter and it’s four moons. In 1994 we watched comet Shumaker Levy 9 collide with Jupiter. The first comet impact ever seen by human eyes. A year later Galileo stated a tour of Jupiter’s four major moons. The Cassini probe took movies of Jupiter’s mysteries atmosphere as it cruise by on it’s way to Saturn. In the year 2015 a new mission will take us back to Jupiter. Prometheus One will be powered by a small nuclear reactor and propelled by a new type of engine. It’s fundamental mission, to search the icy jovian moons for the possibility of life.
